Agriculture in the Classroom

The Program

Agriculture in the Classroom is a grassroots program coordinated nationwide by the United States Department of Agriculture and in Illinois by the Illinois Farm Bureau. These entities work to help students gain a greater awareness of the role of agriculture in the economy and society.

The goal of the Sangamon County Farm Bureau Agriculture in the Classroom (AITC) program is to help students better understand agriculture, so they can become educated consumers with the ability to make informed decisions about issues dealing with the agricultural industry.

Our Role

The Sangamon County Farm Bureau makes every effort to support the AITC program. One way to achieve this goal is to support the Agriculture Education Partnership of Sangamon, Menard, and Logan Counties, or AEP.  AEP is an organization that was formed by multiple entities in Sangamon, Menard, and Logan counties, including the Sangamon County Farm Bureau, who saw the need for agriculture education. These entities joined efforts to hire an agriculture literacy coordinator to carry out the AITC programs and educate students in Sangamon, Menard, and Logan counties about agriculture. AEP now consists of a Board of Directors, one from each of the founding organizations as well as the Ag Literacy Coordinator to carryout educational programs and supply educators with agricultural learning materials.

The Agricultural Education Partnership represents the educational programs of:
  • University of Illinois Extension Logan, Menard, Sangamon Unit
  • Logan, Menard, and Sangamon County Farm Bureaus
  • Logan, Menard, and Sangamon Soil and Water Conservation Districts
  • Various commodity groups throughout the state.
  • And with the help and support of many businesses and individuals in the area
