Tailgate Talk Tonight

2010-07-20

The foundation which your farm is built on is you! Your needs! Your ideas! Those are the true building materials of a successful farm. That’s why it’s important that you get involved in Farm Bureau policy and attend a Policy Development ‘Tailgate Talk’ on July 20th at Sangamon County Farm Bureau at 5:30 pm. Help us welcome Illinois Farm Bureau Vice-President, Rich Guebert who will kick the meeting off with a policy issue update. The goal for this meeting is to update members on issues and create an opportunity to hear member concerns that we need to address in policy.

Since a good tailgate conversation is not complete without food. The Farm Bureau will be grilling burgers, brats, and other delicious food.

“Farm Bureau is a grassroots organization. That means the actions Farm Bureau takes is directed by policies set by individual farmers,” said Mark Reichert, SCFB Policy Development Chairman. “Often, these ideas are surfaced at meetings just like this one. It’s important for farmers to be there – not only to discuss someone else’s idea, but also to talk about their own needs and concerns.”

If you come to this meeting, will you hear a lot of off-the-wall ideas? Well, probably not. You’re more likely to hear your neighbors talk about the aspects of farming that are most important to them, such as fair regulations, risk management, and property rights. Reichert continues, “Farmers, you need to come to this meeting and chime in. Share your point of view. After all, if you don’t speak out for yourself… If you don’t build a better future, who will?”

Please RSVP with the Farm Bureau as soon as possible. Please join us by bringing your pickup, dropping the tailgate, having a talk, and not to mention a bite to eat. Remember policy not only starts here..but it starts with you!
